1976 240D for parts

RE: 1976 240D for parts
I am near Detroit Michigan. The car has had it's inner fenders professional replaced (I have pictures taken during the process), the interior is nearly mint, but the body needs some rust repair.
I tried to sell it whole but no one even looked. I know I could pull the engine apart and resleeve/re-ring it, but why for a $1500 car?
I did a valve adjustment after posting this ... Still no start. This thing has blowby even when you crank it, so evenif I did get it started I know Ihave at least one bad cylinder. When it starts it stays running ... It is getting it to start that is the problems (and it is not the glow plugs ... It will not even restart when the engine is hot). I think there are at leasttwo marginal elements, the compression, the IP and maybe even the starter, that are combining to cause the problem. I have 100 hours invested in screwing around with this car and it simply isn't worth my time, especially when the240D with auto have virtually no resale value. Thanks for your response.

I would not touch another one with a 10 foot pole: I haven't got toexperience the tremendous reliablity that I hear Benz enthusiaststalk about.I can see you are an enthusiasts and I can tell just from your tone that you know I have a boat anchor, so why buy another? I have a file folder from mile one of this car and it is over an inch think: It appear this [particular] car was a lemon out of the factory. I have owned Chrysler 318's all my life, putting 100's of thousands of miles on them and I can add the receipts from any 5 of them together and come nowhere near the number of repair receipts generated from this one Benz.
