Default Looking for 1984 300D Euro Import Auto Transmission

Hello all,

I have a 1984 Mercedes 300D (non turbo) Grey-Market Euro import that needs an automatic transmission, part number 722.405

I looked briefly and found the following site with one in stock:
Mercedes Benz Parts & Accessories - Mercedes 123 Transmissions
However, it seems that many have recommended against adsit.

I am located in New Hampshire, and not opposed to driving to find a decently priced rebuilt or used transmission. Does anyone have any recommended sources? I'm a college student on a budget so the cheaper the better, but I don't want to sacrifice too much quality.

Thanks!

Not sure. I started to take it apart last year and I found many broken pieces. It ran fine in 1st, 2nd, and reverse, but had no 3rd or 4th gear (it would shift up and act like it was in neutral).
If I could find a rebuild kit for cheap somewhere I might be interested in doing that.

I had a garage take a look at the car while it was running, and another look at the transmission after i removed it and they both said I need a new one (as opposed to a fluid change or vacuum adjustment)

Just an update in case anyone else finds this thread while searching:

I removed the transmission from an american 1984 300D with transmission number 722.315 and it fit in perfectly. I am still in the process of adjusting the vacuum and kickdown cable but all gears work.

the few differences i noticed:
the electrical connectors are different, but the wire colors are the same, so i was able to just splice the original wires onto the new connector.
the speedometer gearing is incorrect; the euro models had smaller tires than the american ones. once i swapped to the larger (p295) tires, the speedo was back on.

other than they they appear to basically be the same transmission.
good luck to whoever reads this!
