Default 1984 300D Auto Tranny Questions

hey fellas, doing some work next weekend in trade for an 84 300D with an auto tranny.

are these transmissions all hydraulic/mechanical, or are they electronically controlled?

I don't particularly like electronics and computers on cars...probably mostly cause I am fairly retarded when it comes to figuring them out....what all is electronically controlled on these older diesels? the fuel pumps?

any particular issues to look out for on these year models?

thanks for your time!

They're pretty simple if you ask me. There's a vacuum switch on the side, plus a couple of pressure adjustments on the side, and a cable that lets the transmission know how far the accelerator pedal is depressed. The cable is the most misadjusted component in my experience. Most people try to adjust it like you would a normal kick down linkage. My understanding is you should adjust it so that it's not moving the spool valve it actuates, but so that as soon as you press on the pedal, it does move. The vacuum is quite important also. A little hand vac tester is very very useful in detecting issues of all sorts with these cars. But the vacuum modulator is on the left side, and as long as it holds vacuum they're usually good. The pressure adjustments, I'm still trying to figure them out. I personally have an issue where it doesn't shift down into first gear when stopped, and it shifts from 2nd to 3rd almost immediately. But people say they last the million miles the engine will if adjusted properly.
