1987 300SDL, rebuilt motor and transmition!!!
HELLO! I have a 1987 Mercedes Benz 300SDL for sale in Shelburne Falls Ma. 01370. I bought it recently with the intention of installing a grease kit, but a financial situation has changed those plans (unfortunatly). The car runs and drives smooth, shifts smooth.
The good: The car has a total of 279,000 miles on it. It was purchased @ Ceglarz Motor and Repair in New Brittian CT. They specialize in Mercedes, and are considered 'European Master Mechanics'. Peter Ceglarz and hisfatherown the business andimigrated fromGermany 20 or soyears ago. They have serviced the vehicle since new almost 20 years ago.
The engine was rebuilt in the summer of 2004 at 215,859 miles. At the time the cylinder heads werecompletly rebuilt – valve guides, valve stem seals, seat were ground down cylinder head was pressure tested and shaved. New timing chain, gears, sliders and pensioners were replaced as well. The turbo was removed at that time as well and rebuilt to prevent any breakdown. The oil changes were done every 3,500 miles and only Castrol oil was used
The transmission was replaced in October of 2005 at 257,958 miles and it shifts well.
The tires were replace last June.
The Bad: The drivers side and right rear windows do not function. The sun roof also is not funtional. The power antena is not functional.No rust showing, 2 or 3quarter size bubles of rust over the front lefttire and rear left tire, Other than that the paint is in very goodshape for being 20 years old. Aslight exaust leak at the front of the muffler. When cold (i mean new england winter cold) the 300SDL starts a bitrough, and vibrates at idle untill warmed up (but I would imagine thatto be fairly common).Thevibrationcould also have somthing to do with the exaust leak.
Over all its a very solid 300SDL. On the hiway the thingpurrs like a kitten and is a joy to drive. Itsbeen my dailydriver and will be shame to give her up. Its took me a while to find a 300 in such solid mechanical condition.Whoevergets her will begetting a strong Benz.
