250 SL ignition switch removal
First time on this forum, first post--second time to type it as I messed up the first, and a major need for help.
How is the ignition lock cylinder removed from the lock housing on a 250 SL? Where do I turn it? Where is the release pin? How does this come apart?
We recently found a 250 SL to restore; first problem to confront us was a lack of ignition key. To make a long story short: At first I found a helpful contact at a dealership who understood the trials of restoration. A key was cut from code but it did not work. Now the eagerness to help has vanished; probably based on the lack of large sums of money not being involved.
I have picked the lock, unlocking the steering so we can move the car around. IF the lock cylinder can be removed, I can hand cut a key to fit.
What is the trick to removing the cylinder to change it or rekey it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
