190E Stalls Then Won't Start
Hi all,
I have a '88 190E 2.3 that keeps dying on me! It starts just fine and within a few minutes of driving suddenly dies then won't restart for quite some time, hours or even a day. The engine turns over but will not fire long enough to start. I replaced the plugs, distributor cap, rotor, fuel filter, and had the fuel system flushed. The plugs are sparking but I'm not sure if the fuel pump is bad or if it is something else. Any tests I can do and how? Sometimes I can drive it just fine, it only dies when I have someplace important to be. . . When I took it to a mechanic they couldn'y get it to die, the next day it died on my on the way to work, very strange. I'm at a dead end. I don't want to start just replacing really expensive parts without knowing whats wrong. Anyone have any ideas? I'm tired of having to push this car around off of busy roads you know? Thank you all!

Turns out it was the Fuel Pump Relay, a very easy fix, if only I had known before having a new mechanic do exploratory surgery on my car on my bill. It's located behind the battery, just pop it out and put in a new one. Can't win 'em all . . .
