As the old saying goes, "guns don't kill people. People kill people." Sit a AK-47 in the room with a normal person and I gurantee that AK won't just get up and start firing out of the blue with the intent to kill. Now add two people in the same room with an AK, some one might die.

It would work in Cheney's favor to have this whole incident offcially investigated. A lot of people think he's hiding something.
On the other hand, accidents sometime happen due to negligence. Any experienced hunter, such as Cheney, should know not to swing around and shoot behind you when you and other hunters are walking a line. You should only shoot ahead of the line. That's the question to me. The press release timing isn't important to anyone but the NYT and Hillary Clinton.
