Just won $5,000
Hi I dont gamble much at all, but to day on Thanksgiving I decided to buy a Lotto ticket for reason I dont know. I ended up winning $5,000. My question is. How do I claim it at my Lotto retailer with getting killed on the taxes? I was thinking of having my son do it.(20,College,"No Income") Any suggestions would be good. I have 40 days to claim it. I live in New York State and they will take all of it if they could.

I have no idea to be honest, other than having like a state tax exempt card or something. Like a church organization getting away with buying stuff from a storewithout paying taxes, so it should be the same with a lotto ticket.
