E320 vs C320
Hi, I just discovered this forum. I've been gathering information on MBs because I think there is a very good chance this will be my next purchase. Currently I'm thinking of either a used E320 (perhaps 2 years old) vs a new C320. Which way I go depends on the answer to some questions I have.

1) How much are new MBs discounted? I hear everything from "not at all" to "you can easily buy one below invoice". I need more input in this area.

2) Rear legroom. Although I've sat in both these cars, it was too far apart in time for me to remember how they compared. I don't need a LOT of rear legroom but I would like at least what my BMW 325i has. I've read up on the figures but sometimes figures don't tell the whole story.

Mercedes offers discounts just like all other auto makers. I often receive "special discount" ads from local dealers here in Northern California(discounts were mostly offered to C, E, S, and M class). The ones without discounts are those low-production models such as AMGs.

The rear legroom for C-class should comfortably fit anyone 6ft under, as I had a chance to sit in a C240 and it is a big improvement over the previous generation C-class.

I would recommend a new C320 because besides its a new car, you are also covered for the 4yr / 50,000miles warranty period, which all scheduled maintences are free. My car has 30,000mileson it and I had not yet spent a penny for maintenence.

I just purchased an '01 E430 and was very surprised by the room in this car. I'm 6' 5" and fit comfortably in the driver's seat. Also, with the driver's seat pushed all the way back (which is normal for me in any car I drive), I fit relatively comfortably in the back seat too (not that I'll be riding back there very often though). And I don't think the wheelbase on the 430 is any longer than the 320.
One of the neat features is that the backs of the front seats have notches or indentations in them where the rear passenger legs would go. This buys you a couple of extra inches back there. Overall I'm very impressed with the room in the 430 (this does require some sacrifice on trunk space however).
I could never fit into a C Series MB, so I would go for a pre-owned 320. My 430 looks brand new and I got into it for about 50% of what a "new" car would have cost me.
Good luck with whatever you decide on.
