trying to get some information
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am trying to get some info about a MB I might purchase.
It is a 1978 300CD with 91,000 orginal miles. original wheel covers and in great shape. They want 3800 for this car, my husband is hesitant. He says buying a MB is like buying a horse, the purchase is the cheapest part, and that it would cost a fortune for the upkeep. But I love it!
I can't not find any information on the "value"...but the ac works, there is no rust, ..what else should I look for, and does this seem like a good deal?
Thanks in advance for any info or advice.

RE: trying to get some information
I'll chime in and say go for it! I'm more of a sedan guy, but have always loved the looks of those coupes and around here, they are very rare. I don't know where you are, but if I found what you described a few weeks ago, you wouldn't have the option to be thinking about it (if it was near Seattle, it would be in my garage).
I ended up with a 1975 240D (the 115 chassis)after exhausting trying to find a good 123 (whicch is what you are looking at). I think your husband will end up pleased by the dependability of that car. You'll have more age related fixes, but I know plenty of people driving those things that don't give them anywhere near the care they should, but they keep going.
I'm having a heck of a time finding a good site for finding parts, books and other things related to my car. You may have a better shot since there is so many more of those 123s running around. If you stumble on anything 115 related, let me know.
By the way, you should buy it. Around here, a clean low mileage CD usually has a price tag in excess of $7500.

My thoughts are to go for it! Owning a Mercedes is not all about transportation but a bit of a passion. Kids are expensive to maintain but we dont stop having them because of it. LOL Also point out to your husband that the car comes with free roadside assistance for life! A great benefit

Sound like a great deal. The coupes are rare because the customer profile in those days was quite different than it is today.
Rare means valuable with MB. If you keep the car and keep it up it will prove to be a good investment in the future.
Garth, 115 parts are getting scarce althought some will still be available from MB Classic Center 1-866-622-5277 they require VIN or they won't talk to you.
Literature might still be available at MB Customer service 1-800-367-6372 ask for literature.
Parts publications were on microfische which is nla, but it is also in the EPC by VIN (chassis) number.
If I can be of assistance, please let me know.
