I have a 1975 450 SL with a speedometer problem. Recently I started to get a ticking sound coming through the speedometer cable that increased and decreased with speed. I replaced the upper cable. When the cable is loose, it works fine, but as soon as it is tightened down on the speedometer, the ticking returns. Any suggestions? (Yes, I did think of duct tape.)
