Roof raising experience!
Hello,
I recently bought a 1998 SL500 with 48,000 miles. Yesterday I removed the hard top for the first time. When I attempted to raise the power soft top it started out okay. The top cover raised, the front of the top came up and sapped onto the windshield frame, the soft top cover closed after jerking up and down a little. When the rear part of the soft top tried to close it moved about 1/3 of the way down and snapped back up. As long as I held the top button forward the rear part of the top only moved back and forth and didn't close. If I turn the key to the off position the rear part of the top moved freely down by hand. If someone held the rear part of the top down against the locks while I turned the key to on and push the top button forward the rear part of the top locked into place but the top button remained illuminated red. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
