Raising and lowering top
I recently bought a 83 280SL. I know the top is relatively new. I am having a hell of time getting top up. Biggest problem is getting back post to grab and hold as I turn lever.
Directions indicate to fasten at windshield first. Is that correct?

It's much easier to lock down the rear post first and much less chance of scratching the body. Then you can do the windscreen posts from inside the car very easily. Don't take offense at the next comment, it's surprising how many people try to put the top up with the window(s) up and/or door(s) closed.
The other thing to look for is to make sure that the smaller chrome lever is in the correct position so the latch will catch the pin on the back / bottom of the roof. Once the pin catches the latch, then you move the larger handle to pull the roof all the way down. ( the last half inch )
