Problem with warning lights
I own a 1992 500sl, which is in very good nick. Recently, I was away for an extended period, and the battery went dead. On my return, I jump started the car, and since then have experienced some "wierd" warning lights!! The lights are inconsistent, and come on randomly whilst driving - the first thing I noticed was that when I indicated the entire panel of warning lights would flash as the indicator light acyivated - once only. On 1 occassion all the lights came on whilst driving, and then corrected themselves. Now, when starting, only 3 warning lights come on when turning on the ignition prior to starting the car, as opposed to the whole panel, and then renain on - they are the ASR, Roll bar and ABS lights. The car operates fine, so I am assuming it is inly a "light" problem as opposed to a genuine warning. I live in Zimbabwe, and would like to get an understanding of what I am looking at, as there is likliehood of getting ripped off if i take the car in and dont know whats going on!! Any advice would be most welcome!!
I just read your second post above and you mentioned in this post the battery went dead and you jump started the car. Now there could be two problems, First try disconnecting the battery as I first mentioned for a 1/2 hour. This will reset tyhe computer back to default. If that doesn't work, you might not have followed the instructions in the owners manual for jump starting a Mercedes car and you could have fiyed something in the electrical or computer system
