New to MB need advice
Hello, my name is Phillip. I am new to this forum, I like the layout.
I asked this same basic question over at MBWorld and got some good answers but no real clear answer, so I am going to reword it here.
I am needing to get a new daily driver. I do all work myself excluding body work. I am only looking at vehicles in my price range and need a vehicle relatively quickly. I do not have the ability to look at several vehicles that may be slightly different, I will not be able to find a different year because the part of the country I live in does not have an abundance of nicer cars.
I am looking at a 1998 CLK 320 with about 150k miles and a 1997 E420 with 210k miles. I see that parts for these cars are reasonably priced and that I will need a hex set.
My concerns with the cars that I am looking at are the miles. Is 150k to 210k miles ok for these cars? On average what do these cars reach, 300k? What are the most common things to look out for on these cars? For example: My dad has a Jag, the timing chains are notorious for breaking and causing head damage, simple remedy is to avoid buying one that has a rattle from the front of the engine, and any you buy plan on doing a timing chain job preventative. Same thing for Volvo's and timing belts. I found a youtube about buying 10 to 15 year old MB but it was kinda lacking in basic straight answers to such questions as: What problems are there with a CLK320 or E420?
Thanks for all your replies and help.
