Default Hello from Baton Rouge!

Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum! I have been reading for a while and decided to join to get some insight on my 1992 500SL. I've had it since 1999 and I love it!! It's red and it's awesome!! Tried to post a pic but file too large. Will try again. Have been updating recently, ie new leather interior, new soft top, plus have had technical work done.. ie hydraulic seals for soft top replaced among other things. While it seems like it has been in the shop a lot (it really has though) all the original parts are starting to go so I've been having them replaced as they do. Have been told to get rid of it and buy a new one, however, I just do not like the new style as much as this one. I do have a trustworthy mechanic, and being a single female, that is very important!! I'm not being taken advantage of. Anyway, my thoughts are: 1) these are all original parts that are going 2) I'm not fixing the same thing over and over 3) it only has 136,000 miles and 4) I love it!! I would appreciate any feedback so I can decide if I'm doing the right thing by keeping it!

I'm not being taken advantage of.

92 is not realy old for Mercedes. Most of those 80-85 models are still running 99% original.
So my question is how did you come to the conclusion, that you are not taken advangage of?

Based upon his reputation and having gotten several different estimates from different mechanics/dealerships.

If you'd like to search the forum archive, you might find my comments, that in the past I bought older MB in Baton Rouge very cheap, only because single Mercedes shop there was ripping the seller off, without really fixing his car. They even charged poor guy $250 for compression check on I-5, what is about 20 minutes job.
I wonder if that might be the same shop?

Hello from California !

As long as it's not costing you too much it should be fine.

New ones are very expensive, and in the end, problems can still occur no matter how new the car is. Then you have car payments AND maintenance (other than warranty issues of course), so at least you know what you have now.

Plus I like the 129 chassis as well !

Hope this helps,
Take Care

I sold the car with all the records in it and don't remember the name of the shop. Supposable 6 years ago it was the only shop fixing Mercedes in BR. At some time I took the heavy book of records as a lecture and was terrified how easily some people allow them-self to be screw.
The guy, that sold me the car in 2 years period spend $1800 on AC repair and the AC didn't work after that.
So just, like with doctors, take 2-nd and 3-rd opinion and if you leave $1000 in the shop for fixing small issue and it still doesn't work right, don't go back to this place. This forum will give you lot of good advice.
Off-course you have to screen all the BS blabling and whining first.
