fuel filter
Hi, from one of the newest members. I'm here for technical support. After, registering we had Hurricane Rita head towards us. I'm fine, and Houston dodged a bullet but there are many people in a lot of hurt. Please send your prayers.
I'm a home mechanic, I've done various repairs on my Volvos, BMWs, and Mercedes. I don't have a repair manual and I've had trouble finding one at a reasonable price. I ordered the CD's from an individual who copied them and they turned out to be faulty, and difficult to load into my computer.
Currently, I'm looking for step by step for replacing my fuel filter, distributer cap, and rotor. I will order the ignition wires and plugs later, in October. Do I need a special tool for replacing the plugs ? One of the members here wrote and told me that there are step by step procedures and I would like someone to help me find the posts ( I haven't tried yet ).
Anyway, my wife wanted an old Mercedes and I found this 1990 300sel, Lapis Blue Metallic, Camel interior. It had 97k miles on it. I feel the mileage is accurate but I am now catching the replacement of parts. I had AC work done on it. The compressor was ok, I replaced the compressor clutch and off we went saving a $1,200 repair which some garages were very happy to suggest, and do.
I found an Austrian mechanic named Arno, who is excellent, knows his stuff. If you'd like to contact him in Houston, near the Galleria, let me know.
Ok, I hope to see you all here some more. I know we love these cars and we love talking about them.
Looking forward to hearing from you, Peter...
Ps Other cars I've owned: first car 1956 MB 220S, 3 VW Beetles in the 70's, 76 Fiat 124 Special Tc,'78 Buick LeSabre Landau Coupe, '79 BMW 530i, 2 MB 240D's, 2 240 Volvos in the 80's, '84 MB 300SD, '86 Volvo 740, '86 Porsce 911 SC Targa. pdh...

o a search under the name sleepwalker, he posted all the information on how to change the plugs with the coil packs, and pictures also. But you have a 1990 car so you probably don't have coil packs. are you talking about the metal instead of rubber spark plug covers? us a 10MM wrench give it a easy turn left and right, and pull it off. But if they have been under water you got a problem, especially if the water was salt, these plug cover are aluminium and doesn't mix well with salt water. spray the area as best you can with WD 40 and then try and wiggle and pull of the caps.
I feel your pain. I was ripped off too by some guy on ebay. They sell the dvd's for 25 dls, they will work for a couple of days, then they wil expire. The scan is that they only accept paypal, when you put a claim with paypal, paypal charges 25 dls for processing the claim, so al the money is gone. I wonder how mercedes benz cannot stop this. I am afraid now of getting ripped off again. You can also find most of the info in a site called alldata.com. They give you access to the same wis manual for like 25 dls a year, it is not bad.
