I am a BMW person. I have owned a half-dozen bimmers and currently drive an M3, but I'm getting very tempted to sell the bimmer and buy a Mercedes...


But I'm not going to jump into things without convincing. I love my bimmers, I love their modding community, and I know almost nothing about Mercedes-benz. But that fourth generation SL500s and the first generation CLKs have me wanting more information...

I want info.

Do the models I mentioned have much of a modding base?
Is modding going to be extremely expensive?
How is maintenance?
Why are CLK55 AMGs less expensive then their 430 counterparts?
Do AMG engines need special parts?
How expensive are parts?
How well do they hold their miles?


Again, I know almost nothing about Mercedes, but look forward to looking around this forum and learning more.

Is Mercedes really going to measure up to BMW? I have to have a good suspension and decent amount of horses under the hood (200+ preferably).

I've trying to but some Mercedes, I almost bought a nice 01 SLK Kompressor, then since I tried to get a 94 SL500, but I didn't get that either. I'll have an opportunity to get an SLK in a week or two. I guess we'll see how that goes.

 

By the way, I've been trying to buy a Mercedes. I've tried to buy two 92 SL500s and a 01 CLK430. Each time I've been outbid or some other accident on the part of the action company has stopped me from getting the car.

Today I almost returned to my Bimmer ways and bought a 328ci, but thankfully I didn't and now have the option to buy a beautiful 91 SL500 convertible. I'll know Monday whether or not I can buy it.
