Hi all - I'm dragging home my new to me 1978 MB 240D tomorrow! I got it for $500 - it doesn't run - but I'm told it is only the glow plug solinoid., We'll see.

This will be my 2nd 240D - so I am aware at how slow they are. I'm hoping to get it rolling in a couple weeks if possible & start trying to run veggie oil in it. At least partially mixed with the fuel until I can scrounge up the parts to create my own dual fuel conversion.

Obviously I'm not looking for a high dollar machine - so I don't want to drop $600 on a kit.

Has anyone done a DIY - made it yourself kit? The google searches for 240D returns a bunch of junk - I'm thinking its a tank - tap a heater hose & run it back along the fuel line to a coil in the tank & around an oil filter relocate kit (can get them for a couple bucks). Then some sort of switch to jump between fuel lines just before the pump.

Anyway - first things first - lets get it home & see if I can't get it to fire before I start saving the world.

BTW - Peoria IL area - any locals around these parts? I may need a tow!
