Default Transmission

I am getting a transmission module fault code warning on my year 2000 slk. sometimes i cant get reverse gear at all and sometimes it starts to reverse until i acelerate then is like i am in neutral. Also I lost power while driving on the motorway but I stopped and switched the engine offandon which restored power again.I cleared the code and all was well for a while but it has reappeared and the cel is lit again. Is there a sensor on the edge that needs replaced or am i in for a big repair bill??? Any ideas welcome

2 simple things to do 1st .

1. Clean MAF to see if symptoms reduce or go.
2. Change trans oil

I have replaced the MAF and the performance has greatly improved. However I still am getting the 500 and 700 errors on my scanner after clearing them. The abs bas and esp lights are on together with the cil light. I have verified that the brake pads are ok.I noticed that when I hard accelerate It wont go higher than 4000 revs and wont change up till i ease off the accelerator. Also I noticed than the cruise control wont work, it beepsand the speed reads 000 on the lcd when trying to set the speed on the stick. I hope this info will ring a bell as to the probable fault. Thanks for any help.
