Here's my problem. Just bought an SLK350 2005 model with the basic stereo system and I believe only front split speakers. Its average and I want to improve the sound. I've been advised to retain the original head unit and certainly will do so. Now - two questions....

1. What size speakers can I replace the originals with (without actually removing door panels to have a look)? Will 8" speakers fit in the door space or will I need to buy 6" speakers??

2. Is their a Mercedes amplifier hidden somewhere in the car or is the head unit the only amp source?

I was thinking of installing an amp and new Focal 8" speakers if they will fit. Would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has the technical specifications on the speaker inserts and/or the amplifier. Many thanks to all, John.
