SLK 230 PSE pump

RE: SLK 230 PSE pump - part #
The price i was quoted recently from MBZ dealer was U.S. $510 (part only!) - waaaaay too much for what is essentially a design flaw (water coming thru via wires??) Anyway, finding this as a replacement part is pretty impossible outside MBZ, however contact the salvage yards in the area and ask if they have an SLK...the way this part is designed it is pretty interchangeable through a number of the model years. Also, the codes are already in, so it's pretty much a plug and play situation (not hard to remove, not hard to re-install)...hope this helps all others to avoid some of the frustration I went thru to fix my PSE

RE: SLK 230 PSE pump - part #
Thx Bazzle for the link and the instructions - actually, I read through it while trying to figure out what/where the hell the PSE was located - and so got the courage to try to do it myself!
Updating, I got the part installed - was able to put the unit back in upside down, which requires simply turning the unit on the horizontal axis (front becomes back) - this allows the wires to stretch so you can mount it upside down. Did spray WD-40 in the connectors but not the conformal coating on the PCB and...voila! It works

Uh - with one *minor* annoyance - everytime I go to turn on the car, as soon as the key hits position '2' the car alarm goes off for exactly one "honk" of the horn - right now, i'm too pleased with the $500 i saved to be overly concerned...but it would be nice to figure out how to fix it [>:]

Hi - I noticed your post and hope you don't mind my asking. We need a new water pump and wondered how to make sure we've got the right part. It's a 1998 230SLK Kompressor. I noticed one on eBay, and it says it will fit the 1998, but I don't want to end up with a part that won't work. I saw your post and wondered if the VIN is necessary? Thank you - Gale

You don't need a vin, your best bet is to call the dealer for the part number unless you have an account (free) with EPC (https://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/welcome.jsp) then you can look up the part yourself.
