Default oil spot on floor

found a 6 x 3 inch oil spot under my '03 SLK230 today---appears to be motor oil--sitting approximately under the intake air filter box area (passenger side-inboard of the FR wheel).

any ideas as to what might be in that area that could be leaking?

TIA--Larry

sounds like mine ... though I have determine mine is from the tranny based on smell of the oil and a closer inspection from underneath.

I had the same problem and dealer told me I needed to spend $3,455 changing head gaskets and shocks and brakes front and back, told them not this sucker, not today. It turned out to be that it was leaking by the oil pan bolt, took it to an independent, he removed it, put a new washer, and it's been fine for 9K miles now. It's hard to tell where it's really leaking from because thebelly pan will carry the oil and dump it where it wants. So whatI did is remove the belly pan, spray degreaser underneath and wiped everything downand putcardboard underneath and foundwhere the oilwas dripping from.
