Default Interior Light

I have a 99 SLK 230 and the interior light when you open the door just stopped working tonight, you can manually turn it on and off but in the door switch position, it will not come on opening either door, even the trunk light will not come on when you open the trunk. I did a search on this and only came up with questions concerning the interior lights flashing, where should I start to look???

Hi,
Have you had any other problems.
e,g, Bulb warning or door locks.
Interior light problems (you state bulb and power are OK since you can turn it on manually) points to the CAN / PSE.
PSE is the Pneumatic Security module which operates the pneumatic locking and security system. Locatedin boot on RHS under floor.
CAN is the digital highway that connects electronic modules like the PSE to other modules e.g. ASR, ABS so that they can share data.
Usual problem is a short across the CAN due to water ingress onto the white multi pin connector on the PSE. Look for a blue deposit on the pins or the plastic.
However your problem isDOES NOT COME ON rather than STAYS ON which is the usual symptom.

80%+ conficence you need a new PSE.
DIY job. No special tools or knowledge required.

Lots of posts on this.
Regards,
Stuart

Bazzle, you made my day... by following your directions I not only have the interior light working again but also the remote control that I was getting ready to replace at a dealer for a whole lot of money. My PSE had all kinds of deposits on the connectors and even on the board itself. When I first put it back together my right bottom light stayed on so I tore it apart again and used a hair dryer to dry out the plugs and ta da... everything working good. I even took the time to replace the mirror I got from Donnelly in just 3 days after calling in to Dani. Now all I need is nice weather, April 15th and calling for snow??? get real. Thanks again
