Default Hello P0410 Code

[/size]Hello all, I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 1999 SLK 230 for my wife and plan to do all the work myself. I bought a code reader tool and some other nick nacks to be ready for when things start breaking. I am a BMW man myself, I have a 1999 BMW M3 and I love it. The SLK is cute too, just doesn't quite have the performance level I am use to. I have an engine light on already and read the code P0410 - Secondary Air injection malfunction, don't know what that is but I'll find it. I am a mechanic and a machahical Engineer, I am very will to help others if I can and I'm also willing to listen when I get stuck...beleive it or not.

it means the air pump.

try to feel it when starting in the morning if it is working (there must be a whining sound).

You want to chek the main 02 sesnor.
When the ECU does the AIR test, it looks at the 02 voltage for very lean condition. If the sens can not drop to .04v when the AIR is energized, it will bring up an AIRcode ..
Remember , on the SLK Compressor engines , there is no air pump, .. they use the compressor for AIR injection .
Another common part failure is the AIR check valve .

air injection check valve, right side of motor, condensation sits in it and rust makes them stick closed. probably will need the metal tube it screws into also.

Hello, new to the forum and thankfully there is a lot of good discussion in here. I had the cel on my 2000 ML320 come on the other day and the code was P0410. After researching this site I removed the two air valves (after verifying the pump was working) and inspected them. There seemed to be a lot of debris in both of them. I mechanically agitated them to remove any more debris and re-installed them. I cleared the cel and after two cold starts it hasn't reappeared.

For the record I have a friend with the software and cable to read the codes and clear the log. Saves me a lot of $$$. This code was cleared once and returned on the next cold start before I corrected the problem.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the masses. Hope this post helps the next person. Cheers!
