Do staggered rims require "staggered size" tires???
I have a '98 SLK230 with staggered rims with sneaker size of 225's on the rear and 205's on the front. Is there clearance in the front wheel wells for the same size as the rears? I'm guessing not...just wondered if anyone has tried!!
Thanks,
JR

I have 225's both front and rear on the standard 16" rims. Doesn't seem to cause a problem. The standard is however 205s on the front and 225s on the rear per the label on the driver's door frame.
I am about to upgrade to 225s on the front and 255s on the rear on 18" Carlsson style rims - delivery Monday.
My picture is of a former SLK (which was totalled / not my fault) which had 245s front and 255s rear on 17" rims. The fronts were too wide and tram-tracked a lot if the road had ruts from heavy vehicles. 225s front track quite nicely in comparison.

Nice tires Baz! What Make/model are they? Are those white walls I see???(turned inward).
These 18's are wider than stock aren't they...any problems with the stock caliper or did You uprade?

From recent experience, remember to make absolutely sure the rolling radius of your tyres is matched front to back. My SLK came with 225/50/17 on the rear and 205/50/17 on the front, with the standard 7" fronts and 8" rear wheels. The Cruise control wouldn't stay in above 50mph/80kph due to wheel speed difference. Swapping the fronts back to 205/55/17 cured it, so a difference of 10mm front to rear is a definite no-no.
