STUCK ASH TRAY

STUCK ASH TRAY
My ash tray doesn't "pop" out. I've lubed the side rails, but when I push it into the dash, it stays. Can't get it back out. I have a shop manual, but really don't want to tear the dash apart since I don't smoke anyway. Any ideas/hints?

I have the same problem w/ my 2001. I worked on it, and did get it open. However, after I l oiled it, and closed it, it still does not open. I believe it is the wood facing on the front of the tray which is seperating from the front of the tray, that is holding closed. I reattached, and it still does not open correctly.

Hi all,
I got same problem but I solved it.
first you should fully pop out ashtray (like you will take out its cartridge for clean) then use WD40 both side rails and spray just top of the illumination of the ashtray, it will clean its rails and it will work as new.
I did this on Saturday, and today noticed that it works perfect
cheers

Had same problem, but my issue was the pin that hinges open the flap where you stick quarters. The pin had come out too far on one side. I pushed it in with a flat metal blade of a screwdriver. Problem solved.
