Default beware the dealer

I have to laugh about this... my slk hood strut died so I inquired at the dealer as to the cost to replace and was quoted $220 for the strut and labour (estimated at an hour). I decided to try it myself and purchased OEM strut for $110 and prepared to spend an hour in the garage making the switch... The actual time required? - 1 minute and 30 seconds... and believe me I am no mechanic. It was easier than making toast. It is no wonder dealerships get a bad reputation. Cheers cb

I understand where you are coming from.

The dealer said I needed 4 new spark plugs; $16 each and nearly 3 hours of labor.

I bought the same OEM plugs for ~$3.5 each and completed the removal, replacement and cleanup in less than 25 minutes.

Reasonable is one thing but I hate being taken. What I did for $20 the dealer wanted almost $350.

I wonder, does MB ever read these forums?
