Question Wife found a 560 SL

Hello to all;

I'm new to the MB's so go easy on me. Wife is looking for a car to drive to work we live 1.8 miles & she is getting tired of walking ,or getting a ride with a fellow worker. She found a 1987 560 SL Their asking $12,000 & 73,000 miles. She talked to the owner he said it comes W/ a hard top interior is in very nice condition & the convertable is new,everything works.

My question's are how will this car handle in the winter I'm sure it's not a winter car. How would it handle with all seaon tires? What do I look for ?? Just not sure ? Need advise.

Thanks for listening

Default SL purchase

Sounds like lot of money to me, I bought my 1993 SL500 from the original owner when he bought his new Merc, it has two tops and is a creampuff for $12,500. The car is red with a tan leather interior. I just installed a new Stereo (Sony Blue Tooth hands free phone and Ipod ready) with new speakers and would sell the car for $10,000. It has 71,000 miles and can be mistaken for new, that is how nice it is. That 560 has a much older body style. Look in Ebay at prices, they are full of the year you are looking at and they go for a lot less then the car your wife is looking at. For some reason they just do not hold thier value, one reason I can think of is that the parts are very expensive, an air filter is $200.00! If you are interested you are welcome to call me at 305-310-3866. Another thing you will not see on Ebay is one of the SL500 of my body style for sale, there are just not that many of them and they sold new for $75,000! Dave

Default Winter driving a Merc

These SL's are heavy but were designed and built in a Country where snow is a part of life every year, they handle great in bad traction situations and in fact have several design features with snow and wet weather slush in mind. The taillights have that funny slotted look on purpose so that as the car goes down the road air enters from the sides an wraps around the slots blowing the snow and slush off the taillight lenses so that they can be seen better in bad weather!, what will those Germans think of next! Default my 560

I am restoring a winter driven car, make sure the top seals are in good shape myou don;t need melting snow leaking into the interior and as stated eariler salt will eat everything but it is great in the summer.
