Default 560 Sl Starter Removal

hey everyone, doing a restoration on a 87 560 sl and I have the entire front suspension out including all the steering linkage, while I have clear access I want to replace the starter, it is the original and now is a great time. I have the electrical connections and the bottom allen bolt removed but the top bolt is ridiculous, does anyone have a simple solution? I am guessing that I should drop the exhaust which I was planning on doing anyway to give me a bit more room but even then it isn’t going to be easy. Any help is appreciated

Thanks in advance

Default starter bolt

I am in the process of removing starter from a 95' SL500 AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE TOP BOLT with a swivel flex joint.

If you have any suggestions on how to remove the starter without having to remove suspension or steering links I would appreciate it.

Not sure how your car is set up but try turning the wheel to move the idler arm and tie rod out of the way, if not, I believe removing only the tie rod should work, again I do not know this year or how it is set up. Does your car have rack and pinion?
