wanting to buy
New here and thinking about buying a 1991 SL500 with around 160,000 miles car looks good but I was wondering if 91 had the bio-degradable wiring harness covering and also what else I might look for in a 91. Thanks in advance. Frank

if you have the service records, you may want to check and see if and when the vacuum hoses, timing chain, valve stem seals, and injector seals have been replaced. check for oil leaks and how often the transmission has been serviced. check the strut bump stops and look at he wiring harness especially around the engine where the most heat is involved. mechanically these engines and transmissions are easily good for 300k if taken care of. normally owners of these rigs do take good care of them. hopefully you'll get the service records with the car. they are are wonderful cars, but can be expensive to maintain. It helps if you can do the easier stuff yourself.
