Default Turn Indicator steering column assembly

Hi folks, I wanted to check and see if anyone has had to repair a loose turn indicator lever on the steering column. Mine is loose and floats almost 20 degrees when I use it. The play seems to also have an effect on the cruise control. On a couple occasions my cruise control turned on and accelerated as I was signaling a lane change. It seems that the only way to get to this assembly is to remove the Air Bag assembly and remove the steering wheel to get past the steering column housing. Is this true?
Does anyone have any hints or know of any gotcha's I should be aware of? I want to take care of this ASAP as the cruise control behavior during a lane change is a bit of a safety issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

It's probably the same switch as a 129 of which I just replaced. The switch is one assembly, covering both turn signal and cruise. It cost about $170 for the part, $80 for labor. I watched, It's not hard to replace.

I've had this happen on my my W210 and it's a bit of work to correct it. In my case, it was just a screw that needed to be tightened.

You'll need to acquire the airbag removal tool...either eBay or from the dealer.

The entire write-up covering this is on mercedesshop.com
