Default Thinking about Buying a 2004 500 SL

Is there anything in particular i should look for? Summers is nearing here in Chicago and im in the market for a '03-'04 500 SL. I love to have either red or black, but more interesting in knowing what to look out for when buying. I own a C class now and love it, but I dont drive that much, just on weekends...figured i should dump the C class and go for something a bit more fun. Thanks for your advice.

As great a car the SL is (I have a 96 RED 500) it is fairly expensive for someone that doesn't drive much. Mine is great fun in Florida but I can see why you might want the hard top. I drive only 10,000 miles per year and mine seems to hold its value somewhat. I have had the hardtop on once for 6 weeks last year, only because of the heat, not the cold. An older 500 might be just as fun, and with CarFax reports, you might stumble on a great one like me!!

try going to www.cars.com. go through the prompts for checking out a used 03-06 sl. click on a year of car in question, then click on "research" for the jd power assessment for reliability between the 03-06 sl's, there is a difference. while on-line check all the sl's within 500 miles or the "all" miles to see if you are getting a fair price.
