Default Thinking of buying an E320

I am looking at the E320 (98-01) as a 3rd car and would like to see what people have to say about the costs of ownership. Is routine maintenance costly? I had heard every 10k miles it was like $400 or something. Oil changes are costly as well considering the # of quarts needed and the Mobil One used (am used to this though, my Corvette oil changes are rather high as well).Insurance is not bad, I already checked on that. Just need to make sure ownership costs don't kill me. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi. I own a 1999 Mercedes E-320. I have owned for about7 months now and the maintenance is not that bad if you do not go to a mercedes dealer for oil change. I just take mine toa local Lubeand make them use Mobil 1 Synthetic. It costs around $55. (This includes the $10 oil filter).

If this interests you, my wife recently got a new job which requires her to drive about 80 miles a day(40 each way) and we need to get rid of the car as we simply cannot put that kind of miles in the car.

I purchased this car 7 months ago for $28K and need to dispose it. I am selling it for $22,500.

It is in PERFECT condition. Midnight Blue. Auto, 10 Disc CD changer. Power Everything.

Call me or email me if you are interested.

I have a 1998 Wagon and just love it! I put brakes and tires and that is all. Contenential tires are a bad choice so if you are considering a pre owned make sure you replace them if they are on it. Oh I did put a map sensor on for $250.

I've got a '97 for what it's worth, with 75,000 miles. I change the oil myself about $10 for the oil and $10 for the filter. I use regular 10w-40...I think that was the last year before they went synthetic. I've heard I could switch to synthetic, but I don't see the advantage, I would still change the oil every 3-5k despit the owners manual suggestion to change the oil every 7k; and 15k on my wife's 430 with synthetic. New tires at about 50k cost me $500. Yoko's that I bought aren't lasting as long as the Michelins I had on as original tires. I took it to the dealer for the 30k and 60k maintenance, cost about $500 each time. They drained the brake fluid, radiator, transmission fluid and changed the transmission filter and spark plugs as best as I can tell. I just replaced the radiator hoses and s-belt after 7 years for $60 and I'm going to replace the brake pads next week ~$150.

Bottom line: about $400 a year average for maintenance.

Hey egghead1......the airflow meter / mass airflow sensor is considered an emissions item, and the emissions warrantyis a much longer warranty than the standard MD warranty......check and see if you can get reimbursed!
