Default SL500 Antennas

Need help identifying the function of the two antennas on the 2000 SL500. What is the function of the one on the trunk and what is the function of the one on the left rear fender? I want to install an aftermarket satellite XM radio and want to know if I can use one of them to get the signal. I am told that the antenna mounted on the trunk is no longer used since the SOS emergency call system changed from analog to digital. Can that antenna or similar one be modified to get a XM satellite signal? I do not want to punch another hole in the trunk. My local dealership did not know anything about anything. All help is appreciated. Thanks......

I don't know anything about the factory antennas, electronics are not my specialty I would however guess that they are not compatible. I do however know that there is, or at least was, a magnetic antenna for satellite radios. The xm in my wifes Lexus just sticks to the roof. They managed to get the wiring under the trim strip and there is about an inch of wire showing and an antenna about an inch and a quarter sq and a half inch thick with a magnetic base. I have a similar antenna stuck to the trunk of my SL which is for the after market GPS.
