Default SL350 Gear selector fix

Hello, is a cold wet rainy day in he UK, my 2012 R230 is stuck outside in the curb with the gear lever locked in Park and the country is in Covide 19 lockdown, other than that everything's fine.

But to pass the time can any members help.

I cant find out if my automatic shifter is electronic or mechanical, I followed you tube and some talk about re-programing the shifter after removal, its not clear if the electronics part can be simply un-bolted once the lever is out, then fit the broken inner part with the aluminium replacement.

Will my year respond to the hammer hit to get it out of park? or do I have some later electronic system that the hammer will destroy?

I have a mechanics stethoscope and intend trying to hear the solenoid click (when it stops raining), if no click I will change the stop light switch on the brake pedal ( or is that electronic now)

if it plainly clicks does anyone have info on removing changer unit especially the center consul (from inside the car) specifically on the 2012 sl350

Thanks to any member that can offer advice to this 78 year old or know any good workshops or spanner buddies in Kent.

Ps: I understood the first lockdown, but the second gearstick lockdown, bloody clever virus, wondering what the third will be...diff lock up....?

Regards

Stan
