Default running antenna

Ok guys,
2000 sl500 , I put a new antenna mast in.
Antenna works great, goes up and down perfect.
But, after antenna is up the motor is either still running
or gears are grinding. Thought about pulling mast out
and letting the motor cycle thru then putting mast back
in. Any other ideas?
Thanks guys

I have a 96 SL. read somewhere that the motor runs a certain length of time and then stops (up or down). I have had my motor apart (tail broke off of antenna), so I replaced that part. Inside there are two plastic gears. One pulls and pushes the antenna and the other runs off of the motor. When the antenna gets all the way up or down the two gears, like plates stacked on each other are designed to slip (one stops, the other runs its cycle). Several years ago all I was getting was slippage with a new antenna. I ended up super gluing and screwing the two gears together, again like plates stacked and stuck. I have had zero problems with the antenna since (make certain the flat head screw heads are countersunk). Worked for me. hardest part was fishing dropped screws out of fender well with a magnet!!
