roof hydro-leak

Default roof hydro-leak

hello,upon opening the soft top on my 91 300sl i noticed hydrolic fluid leaking from the drivers side at the wheel well [rear] i am thinking i blew a seal in the lower piston [roof is up do not to get stuck in between open and closed]if so should i change out both sides and how much does . a job like this cost thank you bosjoe p.s. is it possible to overide hydrolics to lower -raise roof of this year

there are two cylinders per side. a larger main and a smaller bow (the cylinder that controls the back portion of the top). be careful because the bow cylinder will leak hydraulic fluid down on the main cylinder making you think that one is leaking. the bow cylinder is kind of buried in the hardware. that side has the bow up micro-switch attached and makes it a couple of hundred more if you buy new. I paid $600 after I bought the main cylinder for $500 by mistaking where the leak was coming from. for a rebuild on your old one try www.mercedescylinders@sbcglobal.net. Be very careful on re-installing not to bend the miro-switch holder on the cylinder if it is in fact the bow cylinder. for opening and closing the top manually. there should be a wrench in a pouch in the trunk with an allen on one end and an open end wrench on the other. use the allen above the visor and the open end wrench in the trunk next to the trunk hinges, look for red, that will indicate where to use the open end wrench.

mine did the same when i was trying to lower it,now it bleed all the fluid so i hv no idea whats leaking,any suggestions and what kind of fluid and where can i buy it at!!thanks....
