Default Replace upper/lower control arm bushings 1973 450SL

I'm a new forum member and owner of my first Mercedes. I just picked up a 1973 450SL and it needs some work. Mechanically it's in good shape, just a small transmission leak but I can live with that.

My bigger probelm is the suspension. Just replaced the tires and saw some bushings need to be replaced. Took it to my local mechanic who said these parts are pricey. Was told each upper control arm bushing is $169 and lower kits are $300, not including labor. I'm looking at $1000 just for the parts!

I want to pick these parts up myself and either install myself or have my mechanic do it. Any suggestions on the most cost effective way of going about this? Thanks in advance.
