Default Power tilt (steering w), fuse for vari-valve timing

I have a 96 SL 500 with aprox 72,000 miles. Prob 1. I recently took a trip and as my custom, will sometimes change the seat and steering wheel adjustment. I went to lower the wheel but when I went to raise it, it would not move. I can bring it back to the highest position with the memory button and adjust it downward with the button on the column, but it will not adjust up with that button. When I went to check the fuses, it had a 20AMP (rather than the prescribed 15 in that slot). I put a 15 in but I have no change in the function.
Prob 2. In further reviewing fuses for the above, I noticed no fuse in the slot for the variable valve timing. I have had the car 2 1/2 years. I put one in. Should I notice any change (mileage, performance, etc.)?

Check the switch contacts - retension the spring and that should solve the issue

Thanks, I'll try that. Does the switch just "pop" out or do I have to disassemble the steering shaft cover

Incidentally, on the first full tank of (premium) fuel since I noticed the absence of a fuse in the variable valve slot, I got 3/4 mpg better. Not a difference as far as I'm concerned and might simpley be a variation in where I went. On the second tank, I'm noticing that the engine is sounding much better (it always sounded great, just throatier) and the car seems quicker. I'll report the results. In the meantime, check your fuses.
