Default Oil Change

I have my sl 500 1999 at the dealer for another issue and they want 165.00 for an oil change. Is it that much more difficult then a standard car? How do I do it if I decide to do it myself?

to save labor costs, it's not any different than any other car as far as draining the oil. you'll need to remove the cover under the car to access the drain plug using a 8mm socket, a 13mm wrench for the plug and a 3/8" ratchet with an extension for a mercedes/German oil filter socket wrench to remove the filter canister cap that is located on top of the engine.

You don't need synthetic oil for that model, either.
8 qt of 5W30 and a filter costs around $50 total.
I never took my 94 to a shop in the 4 years I had it, hope to do the same with the new one...

MB does recommend synthetic oil for your engine. 1998 and newer cars

But doesn't that have to do mainly with the FSS and 10,000 mi change interval?
I never had more than 5K in a year, and always changed annually, so was a moot point for me.
Thanks for the info.
