Default New guy here

Just joined this site . I have several MB in my possession and I need some clarification. I own a 1993 300sl with 87k miles on it and as normal the cloth top wont come down or go up.
I also have a 1999 slk 230 and I had the same issues with the top on it. I just need to know if the electrics and hydraulics are the same for both cars . I need to troubleshoot the 93 and need a point of reference to start from. I don't have an owners manual so I need some guidance . Thanks

My name is Earl I am in Hickory NC 1 hour north of Charlotte .

Thanks

for the 93 sl go behind the passenger seat in the compartments back there, the control unit for the top is under the floor in the compartment. Its been a while since ive been in there but that's where i believe it is. also the windows must be normalized for the roof to work.

normalized means, the auto/ 1 touch down feature.

the controller is in the bottom of the storage compartment just behind the passenger seat under a plastic cover. should see a red button on the compartment lid to open. the connectors on the controller have a slide type pin to lock the connectors in place. to synchronize top, with the windows up, hold down on the two window switches at the same time in the up position for about 8 seconds. check the large strap type fuse in the trunk next to the right trunk hinge, look under the screws too. check pump oil reservoir under the spare tire. as for the slk's top not working, the most likely culprits would be the two left and right locked limit switches above the visors. check pump reservoir in the right trunk well panel. the two systems are like night and day different. the sl is far more complicated

I had a heck of a time repairing the SLK top. Front latch cylinder was leaking then had wiring pinched with a metal clip used to hold wiring in place causing a short. But finally go it working and all is fine. I thought maybe the 300 cloth top would be different . Oh well, that's the price you pay I guess. Just needed some place to start on this one. I have ordered an owners manual for it . I'll let you all know what I find . Thanks
