it doesn't have a drain plug either. oil has to be sucked out of the dipstick tube that doesn't come with a dipstick. what in the world are they thinking. I just ask why not! I ended up buying a dipstick and now a pump. the turds. I suppose it will be nice not having to jack-up the car and crawling under the car to change the oil. I'm just old school though.

as much as I was disappointed in not having a oil drain plug, I got my mityvac 7201 pump and did my first top side oil change. It's a little slow but by the time you get the filter ready to go back in it will be close to the time to put oil back in. so what do I think about not having a drain plug now? first time I could do a complete oil change in my bathrobe without getting dirty. I put another 1/2 quart in after the initial extraction and pumped that out to help clean more of the old oil out. the pump also reverses direction too, so you can pump the old oil into your container of choice.

as far as I know you can't get a transmission dipstick, oil only available. you have to check level for transmission underneath with the standpipe attached inside the pan. I really don't like Mercedes thinking on this. you have to pump fluid into the transmission from the drain plug, overfill, disconnect and wait until fluid slows down draining, then put plug in. the height of the inside standpipe is the proper level. car must be level.

There is a transmission dipstick tool - not an actual dipstick that you can leave in.

I got one of these for my r170 slk 722.6 transmission. can't use this on my r230, no tube to put it in. the only tube at the back of the engine is for oil.

I found using the drain plug does a far better job of getting more of the old oil out. need two good floor jacks and a slight tilt to drivers side.
