Default hydraulic fluid leak

I just purchased a 2000 sl 500. I am getting some hydraulic fluid leaking from the passenger side sun visor. Any ideas on the cause of the leak and if it is difficult to fix?

cicaled,
You can find alot of information on this forum by doing a search on 'convertible' or 'hydraulic cylinder', etc., or you can take this link to a very long thread on another forum that covers just about everything you'd ever want to know about MB's infamous top systems, how to fix them, etc. Good luck, this will be easy for you...

cicaled,
After reading thru the other threads, if you decide you want to do this job yourself, replacing both front latch cylinders, this link will give you the step by step how to's. (both because if one is leaking, the other will soon, trust me)

http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/R129TopRelease

After you remove the two cylinders in the front, they can be replaced through any of the online parts guys for about $120 each or you can have them rebuilt by

mercedescylinders@sbcglobal.net

Dennis has rebuilt hundreds of thesecylinders for owners and shops, warrants them for 3 yrs, as opposed to MB's 1 year, and charges only $30@ + shipping.

Good luck-

Bob
