I have a 98 SL500 and a 2001 S500 and wanted to know how much oil do they take. I am guessing 7 quarts, and I plan on running Mobil 10w-40, or Amsoil 5w-40.I do not know what happened with my manual.... Thanks

I don't have a 500 but the manual that came with my 600 has specs for all the SLs. It shows 8.5 quarts for the SL500 with filter change. You may consider Redline oil for your car.It is a high performancesynthetic race oil. At 8bucks a quart its not that cheap but its good stuff.

 

My 98 SL500 takes eight and a half quarts of synthetic 15W 50. So should yours......
