My dad bought a 91 500sl recently and it has a problem with the suspension being stuck on the race/hard mode.
also he says that the ride height seems to automatically adjust and the optiuon to change it doesnt work.
he has taken it to the main merc dealer here in ireland and they do not knwo what to do with it as thir computers wont deal with its type as it is an old sytem or something.
has anyone had problems with this or knwo of any common fault?

 

When I bought my car it was missing a light on the dash at startup - the ADS one - and was rather hard riding.
Took it to the agents here, they found the panel bulb removed deliberately, followed the diagnosis and found an acceleration sensor on the suspension faulty. Replaced this and the bulb - all OK. The suspension defaults to hard mode if faulty apparently.
