Default Got raped by a SL600, Need some info

First of all I want to say hi, I'm not a Mercedes owner but I am a car enthusiasts so I'm here just looking for information. I ran into a brand new SL 600 last night and he gave me a hard time on the interstate, I've got a 98 model LS1 Z-28 that has alot done to it. I've got Patriot Heads, Cam, LS6 intake, 4.10 gears, all bolt ons and a 150 shot Zex Nitrous kit. 315/35 R 17 Drag Radials on the rear as well, my HP is in my Sig. As you can see my camaro can handle a ZO6 corvette easily, well this SL 600 was a handful! I've tried looking for 1/4 mile times on this car but I can't find any so what are the 0-60 specs and 1/4 mile times? I noticed the car weighs 4400 lbs as well, how is that possible being this car is a such a small roadster? Does the twin turbo V12 really add that much weight? We raced from about 55mph to 135mph with him pulling me about 4 cars before we let out. If I sprayed it would have been a different outcome but I haven't installed a remote bottle opener yet. Let me know some specs on these cars and what other cars you've outran in them. I was amazed at how hard this car pulled, I thought it was a regular old Mercedes until I saw that V12 emblem on the side. WOW! That was by far the best race I've ever been in. Props to those of you that own a rare and awesome car such as that!

depending on the year of the car the 600 is V12 twin turbo the sl 600 actually is or was the quickest benzto 60 mph it was posted at 3.5 seconds in car and driver 2004.. also the quater mile is around 120mph i believe it is 11.8 seconds. 493 HP @ 5000rpm and 590 Torque at 1800 rpm. this is old news though. benz is very conservative on their times. I drive these cars at work and I swear that they are faster than what they post. We have the new 6.3 engines and WOW!!

I'm lucky enough to have one grace my garage for the last few years and can't think of any improvements I'd do to it beyond the chip work I had done to change the power curve and remmove the 155mph speed limiter. But they do cost a premium in maintainance and repairs, you could easily buy one of your cameros for the price of parts and labor I've paid for routine stuff the last few years. It is a car that has the manners to drive well for erands and dust any hotrodder you might encounter. The most important add on is a top of the line radar detector.

It comes with it's own radar detector? Wow, now that is cool right there! I'm sure the maintenance is high, especially on a car with a V12 motor. Does it have any traction problems from a stop or does the car have a good traction control set-up? I'm was just completely impressed with the performance of that car when we ran the other day. I've ran older Vipers and had no trouble pulling on them but this thing absolutely pulled away like I wasn't there. I'm going forced induction this year so I should be around the 500-550 RWHP mark by summer, think I'm going with the Pro Charger DS1C set-up.

You could buy about six brand new camaro's for what that car cost, your a lucky person to have one. Once my wife finishes college then I'm looking at getting a new LS7 ZO6 vette or something a little exotic.

The traction control and suspension computer completely prevent any wheelspin. So all the power gets to the ground, I have nailed it and gotten 0-60 to 0 again in half a block. And by not smoking my tires I don't have to spend bucks on new premium tires every 10K miles like I've seen on vettes and vipers. Those guys acted surprised when they went through their tires in a few months. The thing holds the turns like it's on rails. This is one car that you can actually do the $100 bill on the dash thing, and not smoke the tires doing it. It will do anything I can think of, and my wife can drive it without giving me ulcers worring about my car. Even though we have a 4WD Benz, I often take this one up the local canyon fishing to enjoy the drive up and back.

That sounds awesome, I owned a 2004 C5 vette before buying my wife a 06BMW 330i and it wasn't too bad on wheelsprin but it would definately turn them over dumping the clutch out of a light. Even with the TCS on it would break them loose, now my camaro, it's pathetic on traction. I've got 315/35 R17 BFG Drag Radials out back and even with the traction control on it can break loose from a roll. I'm an old fashioned American Muscle car fan myself but these European cars really are working on me. My wifes BMW is the smoothest and most comfortable car we've ever owned, you definately get what you pay for. Thanks for the post, I'll have to keep an eye out for one of them SL's or AMG's around this area and see about making an addition to my garage. Does anyone have a picture of the motor in a SL 600 or have a link to a site that does? I'd like to see what that V12 looks like. Thanks again.
