Default FUSES??? New kid on the block

Hi,

So my husband bought me a 1988 MB 560 SL. This is my dream machine since college. We bought in on Ebay and had shipped directly to Texas as that is where I work all week. I am here - he is not and this is our first MB. We have had other foreign cars, but he usually took it to the local import car specialist.

I need to get it inspected but I have a problem. The turn signals don't work, which is the most important thing. Other subsequent issues include:the radio won't power on nor will the electronic antennea go up and down. The windows do roll up and down, the bell dings if I leave the lights on and open the doors. The doors all lock, the head lights and tailscome on, the engine runs just fine. The heater works... The interior lights don't come on, neither does the trunk lid.

So, is this a fuse issue? If so, can I just go the local parts place and buy fuses or do I have to take it to the dealership or some local. If its not fuses, what are my other options. Please help me here I don't have time or money to get screwed by some local guy who sees 'stupid chick' standing in front of him. Thanks

I have no experience troubleshooting the electrical system on an older SL like yours. But I do on the more complicated newer models, and for this the Tech DVDs from Mercedes are invaluable. I imagine the one for your car (R107 chassis) would be as well. This is thelink for orderingthe DVDs: http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/8002/?requestedDocId=8002.
