Engine harness and ASR issue
Just for the forum FYI:
I have a 92 500SL. Made the mistake of washing the engine....I hate a dirty car! The wiring harness didn't hold up to the high pressure. Looked OK but the next day I get an ASR light and the car goes into "limp home mode". I had to turn the car off and restart to correct the issue. Kept doing this over the next couple of days. I did enough reading about the deteriorating rubber on these cars to figure I must have damaged the harness somehow with the high pressure wash. Took it to the dealer andTOLD them to change the harness. Asking the dealer to solve the ASR problem seemed like an open invitation into my wallet. The new harnesssolved the problem. In fact the car runs better than ever. (harness $850 labor $450) Seems to be a must repair for anyone owning these cars and planning to keep them. The car idles a little rough now....havn't solved that issue yet. Any suggestions from you members with all the experience would be most appreciated.Otherwise, I'll start with the ignition wires as it feels like a miss on one cylinder.
