1999 C230 engine wire harness issue-2ND TIME!!
Hi gang,
been a long time, but I am back.
OK, my 1999 C230 Kompressor, which i got in 2006 with 52K miles on it. very clean at the time.
I am now at 97k miles.
in 2008, I had trouble with the car, boggin down at higher RPMs (3000) and giving cylinder misfire check engine light data codes. If I stopped the car and then start it again, it would go away. sort of random.
then it got worse I took it to MB and they said it had a engine wire harness issue and it needs replacing along with a cam sensor alignment.
after reading through the forum at the time, the engine wire harness was def. a known issue, but thought to be on 202 models 1997 and earlier. never the less they replaced it and adjusted sensors which cost $1400.
Now 2011. car does the same thing on wet days. check engine light came back on, cylinder 2 misfire code comes up, if I stop and restart, sympton goes away for a while, still random. This time I think it cant be the wire harness, they replaced 2 yrs ago.
My neighborhood AAMCO guy says it is the AC compressor, but then after trying a new one, says "well ...nope", they think the problem lies in the engine wire harness. (BTW, they did not charge me for the new compressor or labor since it did not work...very cool of them)
so now I have an appt with MB to find the problem. I will post results, but my question is:
do the later 90's models also have this biodegradable wire issue and if they replaced it in 2008, wouldnt they have used better materials? is my car the only >97 model with this recurring wire harness issue?
any help is appreciated!
